Calcium Carbonate in its purest form.

Before I go into our process, I’d like to stress the importance of you consulting your health care provider as Calcium is not a supplement to be taken unless required so by a professional health care provider. Avian calcium and Oyster shell calcium are the two natural supplements most physicians would recommend. they are 100% safe, unless you suffer from egg or seafood allergies.

You can obtain calcium from whole foods or whole-food supplements, which is an essential mineral your body needs to strengthen its foundation. For better absorption and long-term health benefits, choose whole-food calcium over synthetic calcium when supplementing with calcium.

Avian eggshells are bio-ceramic structures that protect the embryo. It is almost entirely composed of calcium carbonate, 94%, with a small amount of organic material. On our own farm, we raise our own chickens. Here is how we prepare eggshells for use as calcium supplements.

First, let us say that our barns are kept very clean, with nesting boxes being checked daily for cleanliness. This is a personal preference of ours since we consume egg products ourselves. We collect eggs from our 57 Rhode Island and 44 White Leghorn chickens every morning at 10:00 a.m. Our eggs are then washed by hand in our utility kitchen since an automated system is not cost-effective. From here, every egg used, the shell is washed and stored in an air circulating container where the shell dries naturally, once the container is full, the shells are sent to the utility kitchen to be washed one more time, air dried for several hours, and then placed in ovens at 300 degrees for 1 hour, followed by another 1 hour at 225 degrees. Upon sterilization, the shells are placed in sterilized containers where they are crushed to a manageable size. Following this step, the shells are placed in several blenders to reduce them to coarse grind, after which the shells are placed in our flour mill set to medium grind, and from there they are ground at the finest grind point, resulting in a powder. At 94% purity with trace minerals, this is a near-pure Calcium Carbonate. Now that the shells have been prepared for processing, we begin the time-consuming process of manually assembling our capsules at a rate of 400 per batch.Upon completion, our capsules are packed into sterilized, one-gallon amber glass jars that have been vacuum sealed with oxygen and moisture absorbing packets. Upon receiving an order, we remove the necessary amount and, under sterilized conditions, fill each bottle with the order amount, then seal it (sometimes with oxygen absorbing material), and ship it to you.
